Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say early analysis show the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the attack left him without words and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
