World Series Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51M watchers in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB stated this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game since the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a 16% increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game series drew 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US viewership was 16.1 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
